I just wanted to thank Foothills for the incredible job you pulled together last minute for the Oneonta World of Learning. They called you at about 8:30 in the morning and you stepped up to the plate. Sound systems, ice cream, water, tables, lighting, - truly an amazing display of hard work and a commitment to supporting local organizations.
You guys deserve a huge pat on the back.

Big Read Number Three gets under way. What good news, and entirely in keeping with the current buzz of literary activity centered in Oneonta.

The Green Toad Bookstore on Main Street has flourished handsomely, bucking the national trend of disappearing independent booksellers. It's hardly surprising, given the savvy and energetic, and cheerful, leadership of Michelle Pondolfino and Claire Willis, ably assisted by an equally remarkable staff. The book-publishing industry has taken note and Oneonta is now a new stop on the national book-signing circuit, a jaunty feather in the city's cap.

Then there is the release by Scribner's, just this month, of "Lost,"
an exceptionally fine novel by Alice Lichtenstein, a powerhouse of a writer and professor at Hartwick College. Read it ASAP and feel the pleasure of "being in the know" when it comes up for a Pulitzer Prize, as it surely should.

From mid-April to mid-May our community will be treated to this year's Big Read's sharp focus on two of Thornton Wilder's enduring masterpieces: "The Bridge of San Luis Rey," as fine a novel as can be imagined, written in the crystalline clarity of the American equivalent of classical Greek and Latin; and a richly conceived production of "Our Town," directed by Lissa Sidoli and featuring, among others, the inimitable Reggie Brunson in the role of Stage Manager.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, and this is the third year running that Oneonta, via Foothills, has hosted it. If the NEA thinks us worthy of such prestige, come and find out for yourself in this enjoyable and stimulating excursion into the printed word.

The Metal as Art event was fantastic. The combination of various arts is a nice change. My only complaints were with the sound and the positioning of the drum kit. It wasn't horrible, but I've heard better at the Foothills. I look forward to more events like this one.

Tracy,
I have looked at the last email I would be glad to see if there is a way to improve the readability would you be able to forward back to me the email you received. I have to look into this orange On several computers I did not see orange in the email but that is not to say there is not a problem.

I find it extremely hard to read the neon orange print on the gray background in the e-mails. So, unfortunately, most times I do not even try. Is there any way to make easy to read, or is it just me? Thanks!

Hey HGR,
I see you can't gather up the nerve to leave a real name.
Any who despite what has transpired at Foothills, do all of us a favor and don't drag me through the mud. If you honestly think that I can't make a Banana sandwich or the like perhaps you need to get a grip.

Is the entire film series cancelled in light of the Foothills' recent "development" or was there simply a technical reason as to why the scheduled showing of The Shining was cancelled? If the entire film series is now defunct, could you please make this better known.

Sorry to learn this evening of the letting go of all but one employee, sure hope with this new building and great chance for Foothills to shine the board has a plan to get back on track. A sad day for the arts in Oneonta.
