You asked for it...Foothills presents a free showing of the film THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY, adapted from THORNTON WILDER’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Join us for a viewing of the 2004 version of the film with subtitles, directed by MARY MC GUCKIAN and starring Robert De Niro, Gabriel Byrne, Kathy Bates and Harvey Kietel.
Set in Lima, Peru in the early 1700’s, the film tells the story of five people who are killed in a freak accident when a lofty rope bridge collapses. A priest witnesses the tragedy and embarks on a quest to prove that it was divine intervention, rather than chance, that led to the disaster.
The evening will also feature an award presentation and reading of the prize-winning entry from our Big Read 2010 Essay Contest.
